The regional administration says it will provide support to the blocos under a protocol signed between mayor Carlos Moedas and Brazil's ambassador to Portugal, Raimundo Carreiro. Eight neighbourhoods will host parades.

The festival, which was recognised by UNESCO as World Heritage, was last held in 2015. The aim is to decorate one hundred streets with paper flowers handmade by local residents.

The Brasil Origem Week event series will take place in Porto and Lisbon, with four additional editions planned outside Portugal.
