Dozens of volunteers organised a collection of goods and went to the affected area to support families affected by the storm. The solidarity movement mobilises the community, the Parish Council and local businesses.

On Saturday the council said that the donated food and hygiene items had already exceeded needs and asked the public to stop delivering them.

In Leiria, around 600 people from across the country collected the debris left by Storm Kristin.

Heavily affected by the storm, Leiria came together to clear the debris that had accumulated in the city and around the stadium. CNN Portugal reporter Pedro Bichardo is covering the 'Reerguer Leiria' initiative and reports about 600 people taking part.
