Security expert Paulo Dias emphasises that the lack of electricity and communications undermines the protection of homes and businesses in the affected areas, although there is, for now, no indication of an increase in thefts linked to the disaster. He warns of the risk of scams targeting elderly people in remote areas and highlights the strengthening of neighbourhood policing by the PSP and the GNR.
