The orange warning is issued by the IPMA whenever there is a meteorological situation of moderate to high risk.

The IPMA has issued a yellow warning for the districts of Porto, Viana do Castelo, Leiria, Aveiro, Coimbra, and Braga, due to the forecast of northwest waves ranging between 4 and 5 metres.

IPMA warns of likely impacts, such as accumulation and possible ice formation, leading to road closures or restrictions.

This Monday, the entire coast is under an orange warning due to forecasts of strong winds and rough seas.

Civil Protection is in a special state of readiness at level 4, the highest, along the entire coastline between Viana do Castelo and Setúbal.

Authorities have placed the entire coastline on red alert because of intense wave activity and dangerous sea conditions, warning coastal communities, shipping and beachgoers to take precautions.

Due to strong swell, the coastal areas of the districts of Porto, Faro, Setúbal, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Beja, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga are under a yellow warning this Friday.

On the first day of the year there is a possibility of light rain along the coast, while on 2 January precipitation is expected across the entire mainland, at times heavy and accompanied by wind.
