Voluntary returns of illegal immigrants quadrupled in 2025

More than 750 irregular immigrants in Portugal returned voluntarily to their country of origin last year, four times as many as in 2024, the PSP said. In a statement to Lusa, the police reported a 283% increase in 2025 compared with the previous year, when 198 voluntary returns were carried out.
