The quality of its service and the 'projection of its image' internationally earned it the highest official classification given to a national historic building. The process was initiated in 2019.

The bookshop's move into publishing “was a true leap into the dark: a bet on creating books and on building Portugal's first feminist publisher”, said Lorena Travassos.

The building housing Lello Bookshop in Porto is to be classified as a National Monument. The announcement was made by the Prime Minister on the day the bookshop marks its 120th anniversary.
The Lello Bookshop in Porto celebrates its 120th anniversary this Tuesday with new decor and a special programme. From 13:00 the doors are open for free visits, and the first 120 visitors will be given a copy of Italo Calvino’s 'Invisible Cities' as a gift.

The name is dropped, but the bookshop on Rua de Santa Catarina remains, after it was closed in January by decision of Leya.
