The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport announced today, at the opening of PDL26, that the Government will continue the Portuguese Capitals of Culture project and will open applications for 2028 and 2029.
Funding streams have opened for creation in Music and Opera; Street Arts, Circus, Dance and Theatre; and for programming for cross‑disciplinary projects and visual arts. They were expected to have opened by the end of December.

The Directorate-General for the Arts (DGArtes) today opened four strands of the 2025 Project Support Programme in the areas of Creation and Programming, stating that the remaining calls will be launched in the coming days.

The biennial (2027-2028) calls under DGArtes' Sustained Support Programme, which are expected to open by June, have €39.2 million available — almost €4 million more than in the previous cycle, it was announced today.

The Cultural Promotion Fund will support 14 culturally meritorious projects with €500,000, out of a total of 292 applications submitted, without holding hearings for interested parties so that payment can be initiated this year.
