Broadcaster Cândido Mota died this Sunday at the age of 82 at the Hospital de Santa Maria in Lisbon, where he had been hospitalised. His daughter, Teresa Mota, stated he passed away peacefully surrounded by family and close friends. Mota leaves behind a legacy as one of the great voices of Portuguese radio and a pioneer of interactive programming in Portugal. Born in Espinho, he began his career at 17 at Rádio Clube Português, later gaining fame at Rádio Comercial with iconic shows like 'O Passageiro da Noite'. Beyond radio, he was a familiar face and voice on television, notably as the announcer for game shows hosted by Herman José. A committed civic figure and member of the Portuguese Communist Party, he was a regular presence at the Festa do Avante!. President António José Seguro paid tribute to Mota, noting that his unmistakable voice will remain in the collective memory of the Portuguese people.
