Aguiar-Branco apela a maturidade política para eleição de órgãos externos da AR

The President of Portugal's Assembly of the Republic, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco, called for political maturity among the main parties—PSD, Chega, and PS—to ensure the election of external parliamentary bodies, emphasizing the importance of consensus for democratic functioning. He highlighted that Portugal's recent parliamentary configuration, resulting from direct, free, and universal elections, requires cooperation among at least three parties, moving away from past habits. Aguiar-Branco stressed that there is no fixed deadline for these elections but urged prioritizing their resolution to maintain institutional stability and democratic quality. The next leaders' conference on March 25 will set dates for candidate presentations and elections, with hopes to resolve delays, including those caused by recent postponements requested by the PS.
