Public procurement is a problem, and changing it is too

It is too early to tell if the liberalisation advocated by the Government will be accompanied by the promised accountability. Unfortunately, in these cases, we will only know if it truly works once it is in effect. One thing is certain: increasing direct awards, simplifying tenders, and making procedures more flexible is too often linked to laxity. And this leads to shady deals, promiscuity, and a lack of oversight. That is why, while attempting to streamline the State, it is necessary to strengthen independent oversight institutions.
