Portuguese athletes Sofia Lavreshina and Omar El Khatib qualified this Friday, March 20, for the women's and men's 400m semi-finals at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Torun, Poland. Sporting CP athlete Lavreshina set a new national record of 51.87 seconds, while El Khatib won his heat with a time of 46.56 seconds. Ericsson Tavares failed to qualify, finishing third in his heat with 46.41 seconds. Lavreshina, 22, expressed her satisfaction after the race, noting she knew she had to break the national record to advance. The semi-finals are scheduled for later today.
