Fire in building in the centre of Amadora leaves 11 injured

A fire broke out this Thursday, April 30, on the 13th floor of a building in Venteira, in the centre of Amadora, Lisbon district, causing eleven injuries due to smoke inhalation. Among the injured are two children and four Public Security Police (PSP) officers, Amadora Fire Department commander Mário Conde told reporters. The two children and two adults were transported to Amadora-Sintra Hospital, while another injured person was taken to São Francisco Xavier Hospital in Lisbon. The others were treated at the scene. According to Civil Protection, the fire, for which the alert was given at 12:16, was brought under control at 13:20. The entire 16-storey building was evacuated. The affected floor is no longer habitable, so residents will need to be rehoused. The cause of the fire is still unknown. Dozens of personnel were mobilised to the scene, including firefighters, police authorities, and the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM). Several streets are closed and access to the building is restricted.
