The winner of the Hungarian legislative elections, Péter Magyar, ruled out a fast-track accession for war-torn Ukraine to the European Union on Monday (13) and stated he will promote a referendum on Kyiv's entry into the bloc. Magyar, leader of the Tisza party, argued that it is impossible for a country at war to join the EU and insisted that Kyiv must follow the standard accession process. He also addressed his future approach to Russia, stating he would urge Vladimir Putin to stop the killing. Additionally, Magyar plans to appeal to European Council President António Costa, urging EU members not to force policies on one another, emphasizing that citizens desire functional, strong nations rather than a forced unity of European states.
