The President of the Assembly of the Republic criticised today the proliferation of legislation aimed at limiting the exercise of political office, warned that populist remedies close off politics, and argued that public service requires the best. “Populist remedies do not open up politics, they close it. Populist remedies do not popularise politics, they make it more elitist,” he warned.
