Portuguese company BeyondComposite, which specialises in the development and production of advanced composite materials, has been selected to join the European Famous 3 programme for the development of ground armoured vehicles. The project has a budget of 115 million euros, with 79 million euros funded by the European Defence Fund. BeyondComposite is the only Portuguese company in the consortium, which brings together 43 entities from 15 countries, and will be responsible for developing advanced composite substructures for light military vehicles. The company's solutions aim to reduce vehicle weight while maintaining ballistic protection levels by replacing steel with advanced composites. The project, now in its third edition, covers three platforms: the ATV, the LAV, and the modernisation of the Leopard II tank. CEO Fernando Cunha stated that the selection recognises the company's innovation and excellence, positioning Portugal at the forefront of European defence manufacturing.
