The Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs stated this Thursday, April 30, that the Israeli ambassador was summoned to provide explanations regarding the detention of pro-Palestinian activists, ensuring that consular authorities are prepared to assist Portuguese citizens in Greece or Israel. Paulo Rangel noted that consular staff in Tel Aviv and Athens are taking all necessary steps to provide protection to those detained, following the interception of the 'Global Sumud' flotilla by Israeli forces. Rangel emphasized that because the interception occurred in international waters, the Israeli representative in Lisbon was summoned to provide explanations to the Portuguese government, mirroring actions taken by other European nations. Israeli authorities have detained 175 activists from the Gaza flotilla.
