The learning that the labour market is missing

On International Digital Learning Day, we reflect on the contradiction between our embrace of digital education and our suspicion of digital work. While we celebrate the democratisation of knowledge, we continue to view platform-based work with prejudice, often mislabeling it as mere precariousness. This article argues that flexible work platforms are actually powerful ecosystems for continuous learning and professional growth. It calls for a shift in mindset from policymakers and managers to move beyond outdated binary labour models, advocating for a regulatory framework that protects autonomous workers without infantilising them or forcing them back into traditional structures that no longer meet their aspirations.
