A 36-year-old Portuguese man, wanted by French authorities for a tax fraud conviction, was located and arrested in the Viana do Castelo district, the Judiciary Police (PJ) announced on Sunday, April 12. In a statement, the PJ explained that French authorities had issued a European arrest warrant for the man to serve an 18-month prison sentence. The case relates to tax fraud, with the court finding that, while serving as legal director of a textile company, the man failed to file VAT returns for taxable transactions between February 3, 2016, and November 30, 2016. Following his arrest by the PJ's Criminal Information Unit, the man appeared before the Guimarães Court of Appeal and is awaiting extradition while on bail, with a requirement to report weekly to his local police station.
