Azul demands 189 million euros from TAP over fraudulent management

On March 13, Azul filed a petition at the Lisbon Civil Court claiming 188.9 million euros from TAP, stemming from a 2016 bond loan. The Brazilian airline, founded by David Neeleman, argues that TAP SGPS—later renamed Siavilo SGPS—functioned as a vehicle for TAP SA and that its insolvency was only filed when it became 'strategically convenient.' According to Jornal de Negócios, Azul is invoking the doctrine of piercing the corporate veil to hold TAP SA liable for the outstanding credit. Azul's lawyers argue this is necessary to sanction abuses of corporate separation in cases of ruinous or fraudulent management. TAP maintains it did nothing wrong to the former CEO and will continue to contest the lawsuit.
