The development of Artificial Intelligence is replacing workers at some of the world's largest tech companies. According to data collected by international media, companies in the sector have laid off 38,645 workers between the start of 2026 and mid-March. This represents a 52% increase (13,200 more layoffs) compared to the 25,411 recorded in the same period last year. Among the companies analyzed, Amazon laid off the most people during the period: 16,000. This is followed by Block (4,000), WiseTech (2,000), ASML, Atlassian, Ericsson (1,600 each), and Meta (1,500). The figures support experts who foresee significant job cuts in the tech sector, driven by AI's ability to perform tasks previously only executable by humans. Similarly, a recent study from the University of Oxford indicated that 47% of jobs in the US will likely be computerised within the next one to two decades.
