The Public Security Police (PSP) arrested six pickpockets in Lisbon this week, urging the public to take preventive measures in high-traffic tourist areas. The arrests occurred in the Santa Maria Maior district near Castelo de São Jorge, where officers caught two separate groups of suspects in the act. All suspects were brought before a judge and released pending trial. According to the 2025 Annual Internal Security Report (RASI), Lisbon remains the city with the highest number of pickpocketing incidents in Portugal, with such crimes increasing nationwide last year.
