The Left Bloc (BE) has requested an urgent parliamentary hearing for the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Margarida Balseiro Lopes, and the president of the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality (CIG), Carina Quaresma. The request follows reports that the CIG's technical opinion on gender self-determination bills was submitted to Parliament as a summary, omitting critical warnings regarding right-wing proposals that would revoke the 2018 Gender Self-Determination Law. The BE alleges that the government suppressed institutional warnings about potential unconstitutionality and harm to minors, and seeks to clarify why the document was downgraded from an official 'opinion' to a 'technical note' and why it was delivered only after the minister's initial hearing. The minister's office maintains that the document sent to Parliament was exactly what was received from the CIG.
