GNR 'Easter 2026' operation begins this Thursday

The National Republican Guard (GNR) begins its 'Easter 2026' operation this Thursday, April 2nd, running until Monday, with reinforced patrols and road inspections. During the Easter period, which sees families travelling to their home regions and coincides with school holidays, the GNR expects a significant increase in road traffic and will carry out operational activities aimed at reducing accidents and general crime. The GNR will also increase its presence near festive venues, residential areas, and commercial zones. The force advises drivers to practice 'attentive, cautious, and defensive driving' to ensure a safe holiday. Officers will monitor for dangerous manoeuvres, drink-driving, drug-influenced driving, speeding, and improper overtaking or right-of-way violations. They will also focus on mobile phone use and the failure to use seatbelts or child restraint systems. Additionally, the Public Security Police (PSP) is conducting its own 'Police Always Present: Safe Easter 2026' operation, which began on March 27th and runs until Monday, focusing on visibility in urban centres, road safety, support for the elderly, and airport security.
