Accidents on the IC8 result in two deaths in the Pombal area

Two men, one aged around 60 and the other 45, died early this Tuesday, April 21, following accidents on the IC8 in the Pombal area, Leiria district, the National Republican Guard (GNR) reported. Around 07:30, a collision between two vehicles at kilometre 43, near the city of Pombal, resulted in the death of a 45-year-old occupant and left another man, aged 30, seriously injured. The crash forced the closure of traffic in both directions, a situation which, according to the GNR, remains in place. According to a source from the Leiria Sub-regional Command, 17 emergency personnel are on site with eight vehicles. Earlier, around 01:10, a light passenger vehicle went off the road near the Manuel da Mota industrial park, in the east-west direction at kilometre 38.5, causing the car to catch fire. This resulted in the death of the driver, a man aged around 60, while the other occupant, also male, aged 25, was seriously injured. According to the Leiria Sub-regional Command, 15 personnel with seven vehicles were at the scene of that incident.
