The expansion of biometric control to all non-EU passengers at national airports began this Friday, April 10, without major issues, with only minor delays of about an hour reported in Faro early in the morning, according to a PSP source. With this full implementation, the new European border control system for non-EU citizens is now fully operational following a phased rollout that previously caused significant congestion, particularly at Lisbon Airport. The Entry/Exit System (EES) replaces passport stamping with digital biometric registration (photos and fingerprints) and has been implemented across the EU since October 2025.
