Tourist trips by residents in Portugal rose by 13.7% in 2025 to a record high of 26.049 million, surpassing pre-pandemic levels for the first time, according to data released by the National Statistics Institute (INE). Growth was driven by both domestic travel (+14%) and trips abroad (+12.5%), with leisure and visiting friends or family remaining the primary motivations. Spain, France, and Italy were the top international destinations, while the North and Centre regions were the most popular domestic choices.
