Students at Portuguese public schools in Africa, Macau, and East Timor are required to take national exams at the same time as their peers in Portugal, regardless of time zone differences. This forces some students to sit for exams late at night, a practice described as inhumane by teachers. The Liberal Initiative (IL) party has proposed a resolution to the Assembly of the Republic to adapt the exam system, citing the French model as a potential solution to ensure equity and reasonable local scheduling. Filinto Lima, head of the National Association of Directors of Public Schools and Groups (ANDAEP), supports the proposal, noting that taking exams at 10:00 PM is unreasonable and creates inequality.
