Carlos Cabreiro takes office as national director of the PJ this Thursday

Fifty-three days after Luís Neves left the leadership of the Judiciary Police (PJ), the new national director takes office this Thursday, April 16. Carlos Cabreiro will be sworn in by Prime Minister Luís Montenegro at a ceremony scheduled for 6:30 PM at the Ministry of Justice. Cabreiro's name, previously director of the National Unit for Combating Cybercrime and Technological Crime (UNC3T), was announced on March 31. DN has learned that the government's choice was well-received within the Judiciary Police. Carlos Manuel Antão Cabreiro, whose term will last three years, has been with the force for over 30 years and, at 59, reaches the highest position within this security agency. Most of his career has been linked to cyber and economic crime. It was the unit commanded by Cabreiro that arrested hacker Rui Pinto, creator of Football Leaks, which exposed various situations related to football, particularly in Portugal and involving Benfica. Another case involving the UNC3T was the arrest of Paulo Abreu dos Santos, a lawyer and former aide to the former Minister of Justice, Catarina Sarmento e Castro, who was accused of hundreds of counts of child pornography and two counts of child sexual abuse.
