A 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempting to kill his brother with rat poison on the island of São Jorge, in the Azores, the Judiciary Police (PJ) reported on Tuesday, April 21. The incident allegedly occurred between March 17 and 18, with the suspect reportedly placing poison in food intended for his brother, with whom he lived in their late father's house. After noticing the suspicious contents, the 39-year-old victim refused the meal, according to a PJ statement, which indicated that the suspect acted with the intent to kill. The attempted murder was reportedly motivated by conflicts over an inheritance, the criminal investigation police explained.
