The Portuguese Army has expressed condolences following the unexpected death of 21-year-old Soldier Gérson Rodrigo Machado Pinto from the 3rd Cavalry Regiment during a sports practice in Estremoz. An investigation has been initiated to determine the circumstances surrounding his death, which occurred after he felt unwell during training. Emergency services were called, but he was pronounced dead at a health centre. The soldier hailed from Alter do Chão in the district of Portalegre.
