In 2024, Portugal recorded 3,237 cases of sexual violence, including 494 rapes, placing it in the middle of the 27 EU member states, according to Eurostat data released on Wednesday, April 29. France reported the highest figures, while Cyprus reported the lowest. EU-wide, sexual violence complaints reached 256,302, a 5% year-on-year increase. Regarding voluntary homicides, Portugal ranked 15th in the EU with 72 cases, while the EU total saw a slight 1% increase to 3,953 cases compared to the previous year.
