This article introduces DeskAmigo, a Portuguese startup that creates a marketplace connecting remote workers with over 140 underused venues across Portugal, such as cafés, restaurants, hotels, and coworking spaces. The platform allows users to book hourly or full-day desks, providing a flexible and affordable alternative to traditional coworking spaces while helping venue owners monetize idle tables. The idea originated from recognizing the mismatch between remote workers seeking suitable workspaces and venues with available space, especially as remote work has grown. DeskAmigo emphasizes flexibility for venues, allowing them to set their own prices and availability, and has plans to expand into Spain. The platform aims to foster a more respectful and efficient use of underutilized spaces, benefiting both remote workers and local businesses.
