The submission of IRS tax returns for income earned in 2025 begins this Wednesday, 1 April, on the Tax Authority portal for over six million households. However, the portal is currently down this morning, preventing taxpayers from submitting their returns. The submission period runs for three months, from 1 April to 30 June, covering all income categories. This process allows the Tax and Customs Authority to calculate the final tax liability based on income earned between 1 January and 31 December of the previous year, accounting for tax already withheld at source. The outcome will result in either a refund, an additional tax payment, or a neutral balance. The government expects over six million returns, with automatic IRS processing now including young workers under the 'IRS Jovem' scheme. Refunds for automatic submissions are expected within two weeks, while standard submissions should take three to three and a half weeks.
