The European Union could face a systemic kerosene crisis if traffic through the Strait of Hormuz is not restored within three weeks, warned ACI Europe, the airport trade association, which has requested urgent measures from Brussels. In a letter to the European Commissioners for Energy and Transport, ACI Europe Director-General Olivier Jankovec highlighted that a prolonged disruption in jet fuel supplies would have direct effects on airport operations, connectivity, and the European economy. The EU imports approximately 40% of its refined kerosene through the Strait of Hormuz. The association is calling for urgent market supervision, potential joint purchasing, and a review of regulations to ensure supply security, while also noting the broader need for strategic energy autonomy.
