The European Union is responsible for only 6% of global carbon emissions, meaning that applying decarbonisation measures within the Old Continent is 'insufficient' to reduce global emissions and curb climate change, researchers at the Bruegel think tank observe. However, a recently created European mechanism is helping to overcome some of these challenges.
