While the United States is reinforcing its deployment in the Middle East for a possible attack on Iran, several F-35 fighters were recorded passing through Lajes Air Base en route to the Middle East. The Government authorised the stopovers under agreements with the US, but says it does not know the specific mission of the combat aircraft.
