The Directorate-General of Health (DGS) stated on Thursday, January 19, that it is monitoring the meningitis B outbreak in the UK and guarantees there are no notified cases in Portugal linked to the outbreak, which has already caused two deaths. The UK Health Security Agency announced that the number of bacterial meningitis B cases in the UK has risen to 27, with 15 confirmed and 12 under investigation. The DGS emphasized that vaccination remains the primary prevention measure and noted that the meningitis B vaccine has been part of the National Vaccination Programme since 2020.
