Book sales in Portugal during the first quarter of this year grew by 2.6% compared to the same period in 2025, resulting in over 3.2 million books sold. According to figures released by the Portuguese Association of Publishers and Booksellers (APEL), 3.205 million books were sold between January and March, representing a 2.6% increase year-on-year. Revenue reached 46.84 million euros, a 3.5% rise compared to the first quarter of 2025, with the average book price increasing by 0.9% to 14.61 euros. Bookshops accounted for 70% of units sold and 78.8% of total revenue, while children's and young adult literature emerged as the most popular category.
