Iúri Leitão wins Classic Loire Atlantique and secures first victory of the year for Caja Rural-Seguros RGA

Portuguese cyclist Iúri Leitão won the 25th edition of the Classic Loire Atlantique in Nantes, France, this Saturday, winning the sprint after approximately 160 kilometres of racing. This marks the first triumph of the season for the Caja Rural-Seguros RGA team. The race, part of the UCI Europe Tour, was decided in a group finish, with the Portuguese Olympic champion beating Poland's Marcin Budziński and France's Mavric Beaune, who finished second and third respectively, confirming his effectiveness in fast finishes. Following a strong performance at the European Track Championships in February, where he won two medals, Iúri Leitão returned to winning ways on the road, reinforcing the good form of the 27-year-old, who won Olympic gold in the madison at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games alongside Rui Oliveira. With this triumph in Nantes, the Portuguese cyclist now has 11 elite victories for the Spanish team. He is scheduled to compete again this Sunday in France at La Roue Tourangelle, where he will look to maintain his good form. Iúri Leitão on his silver medal with Diogo Narciso: “The key was to keep a cool head from start to finish.” Iúri Leitão to DN: “It is not difficult to reach the top, the difficult part is maintaining that level for a long time.”
