The retrial for the 2018 Borba road collapse, which resulted in five deaths, is now set to begin at the Évora Court on 19 October, following a postponement from the original April date. The Évora Court of Appeal ordered the retrial after finding contradictions and errors in the initial acquittal of the six defendants, including former Borba mayor António Anselmo. The proceedings are scheduled to continue until February 2027, while the State is simultaneously pursuing legal action to recover over 1.6 million euros in compensation paid to the victims' families.
