The Nationality Law is expected to change in the coming days, and many people are watching the calendar to try to qualify under current rules before the amendment. This is especially the case for those who will soon complete five years of residency in the country. Therefore, it is important to have all documents ready to submit the application. Currently, it is still possible to request Portuguese nationality considering the date of the expression of interest, for example. However, there is no formal definition of which document should be used to prove this count. The Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA) can issue a receipt, but the process is slow. For those against the clock, waiting may not be feasible. DN Brasil found that some people have been using the expression of interest application itself, which already contains the request date. Apart from this, the list of required documents is standard, as stated on the Institute of Registries and Notaries (IRN) website.
