Context & Explainers

Georeferencing (Portuguese: georreferenciação) is the process of assigning exact geographic coordinates to a land parcel so it appears correctly on official maps and in the national cadastre. It’s important because more than 5.7 million rural plots still need identification, and proper georeferencing is required to register property, determine taxes, complete sales and access agricultural subsidies or permits.
