SIBS, through MB WAY, Bancomat, and the EPI Company (EPI) have reached an agreement to create payment solutions across 13 European countries. The system will leverage MB Way services for cross-border use, integrating technology from Italy's Bancomat and EPI. EPI, founded by European banks in 2020, recently launched Wero, a European payment system similar to MB Way. During a presentation in Lisbon on April 16, officials confirmed that person-to-person transfers across 13 countries—including Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, and others—should be available by year-end using QR codes. The next phase aims to expand the solution to online and in-store purchases by 2027, incorporating contactless (NFC) technology. The ECB Vice-President noted the value of a unified European system, while the ECB highlighted that a digital euro would reduce Europe's payment dependency.
